A court in Edo state has sent a 28-year-old man to ten years in prison for the rape of a 10-year-old girl in the state.
The defendant, Mr Mohammed Aliu, was sentenced by Mrs Adamaigbo Dorothy, the chief magistrate of the court in Edo state after he admitted to being guilty of the charge.
The defendant had told the court that he committed the crime on the 23rd May 2020 at a community named Evbukhu, a town around Sapele road in Edo state.
The state prosecutor involved in the case, Mary Imhodemhe disclosed this, also describing the event that took place, saying the accused had defiled the 10-year-old girl after threatening to stab her If she doesn’t comply.
She said, “This offence contravened section 218 of the Criminal Code, Cap 48, Vol. II, Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 as applicable in Edo.”
Mrs Adamaigbo Dorothy, after analysing the evidence of the victim’s medical report and the statement of the convict, found him guilty of the crime and hence issued a sentence of ten years imprisonment.
