Contrary to rumours making the rounds in some quarters, veteran Nigerian singer, Ebeneezer Obey is not dead.
The spokesman of Ebenezer Obey band, Tunji Odunbaku told BBC Yoruba that there is no iota of truth in the rumour that the singer died in London.
Also, Ovation Publisher and media mogul, Dele Momodu and the singer’s son Lanre Obey-Fabiyi confirmed that Obey is still alive and well.
His son stated that the report was false as he also urged Nigerians to disregard the news.
Obey also known as the Chief Commander is a Nigerian Juju musician who began his professional career in the mid-1950s.
After his tutelage under Fatai Rolling-Dollar‘s band, the 78-year-old singer formed a band called The International Brothers in 1964.
The International Brothers later metamorphosed into Inter-Reformers in the early-1970s, with a long list of Juju album hits on the West African Decca musical label.
Obey began experimenting with Yoruba percussion style and expanding on the band by adding more drum kits, guitars and talking drums.

You will recall that his wife, Lady Evangelist Juliana Obey Fabiyi, died at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital in 2011 at the age of 67.
