The Award-Winning Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Adichie, has given insight into how she became an advocate for feminism in Nigeria.
The 45-year-old novelist made this known on Friday during her speech at the 21st WIMBIZ Annual Conference.
She disclosed that it was never preplanned that she was going to be a feminist advocate, but the way women were being treated in society motivated her to take on the cause.
Adichie noted that the pressure society imposes on women who leave an abusive marriage, marry late or don’t have children is unfair and unnecessary.
“I did not set out to be a feminist icon, but I cannot stand the way women are been abused in society and I feel like I have a platform that can make a difference, no matter how little,” she revealed.
