Famous Writer Chimamanda Adichie has expressed her feelings on how the Western Wedding Traditions sidelines the bride’s mother in a recent Instagram post.
According to her, the father of the bride always gets to walk the bride down the aisle. The father has the first dance with the bride and often gives a speech while the mother doesn’t.
Chimamanda Adichie wrote a lengthy caption to let out her concerns with throwback heartwarming photos of herself and her parents.
She, in her Instagram post, revealed some information about her wedding.
Chimamanda wrote, “Our wedding, many years ago, was small and lovely, just as we wanted it. I asked family and friends not to post any photos publicly.
“Before the wedding, I decided that both my parents would walk me down the aisle. And I decided that my first dance would be with my mother. My father, who I often teasingly called DOS for ” Defender of Spouse,” was very supportive. He wasn’t much of a dancer – I inherited his unrhythmic genes – but my mother was. And my mothers’ joy on that day was a gorgeous glowing thing.”
The Writer went on to say that convention wasn’t her thing, that it is something made up by other people. She advised the younger generations to stick to what works for them only, instead of following others.
