According to him, ‘African Giant’ wasn’t self-styled but was given to him by his late paternal grandfather.
In his words, “Let me tell you a secret. I did not call myself African giant. My grandfather, from my father’s side on his deathbed before he died said it.
“He said I’m the African Giant… it was like a prophecy. Na wetin you dey see so“ he added.
Burna Boy claimed his first-ever Grammy Awards in his second attempt. His album, ‘African Giant’ was nominated but lost to Angelique Kidjo’s album in the prestigious award (2020) before his next album, ‘Twice as Tall’ won in the ‘Best Global Album Music’ category for the 2021 awards.
The ‘Ye‘ crooner has now been congratulated by Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari alongside Wizkid who also won his first Grammy awards for his collaboration with Beyonce & Blue Ivy in ‘Brown Skin Girl’ video.
