President Muhammadu Buhari has revealed the intention behind the enrollment of Nigerians into the National Identification Number, NIN database.
While expressing satisfaction with the success recorded in the enrollment exercise, Buhari said 54 million Nigerians have now enrolled, adding that the aim is to ensure total coverage.
He revealed that the NIN enrollment would provide access to government services and give valuable insights that will enable his administration to utilize scarce resources more efficiently.
President Buhari stated this when he received his NIN Identity Card from the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, during the Launch of the National Policy for the Promotion of Indigenous Content in the Nigerian Telecommunications Sector.
NIN Enrollment
According to him, the National Identification Number (NIN) is the foundational digital ID for the country to cover one of the weaknesses in the security structure.
He added that with the NIN, his administration would quickly identify all Nigerians, including the crooks in the country.
Buhari noted that both Nigerian citizens and legal residents are expected to obtain the NIN.
