President Buhari has approved the nomination of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for the position of Director-General of the World Trade Organisation, WTO. This approval was confirmed by Buhari’s aide on media and publicity, Bashir Ahmaad on thursday night.
Formerly, the President nominated Yono Fredrick Agah for the position. However, the nomination was withdrawn for undisclosed reasons.
Buhari Nominates Okonjo-Iweala for Appointment
The election for the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation will hold in Geneva, Switzerland in 2021. The position has a four-year tenure. The former DG, Roberto Azevedo stepped down one year to the end of the tenure.
Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has a tremendous record as the finance minister in Nigeria. She has also served in World Bank and is currently on the board of Twitter. She is also the current Chairman of Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization.
