…Interim Governing Council Takes Over Operations
President Muhammadu Buhari has given the go-ahead for the immediate removal of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC Management Team.
The sack can be attributed to the recent strike embarked upon by the company’s staff that protested over unpaid allowances, salaries and unremitted pension deductions, among other complaints.
The members of the Nigerian Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, though, have called off their strike but pressed that their demands be fulfilled else, similar tool-downing action would happen again.
It would be recalled that areas serviced by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company are the federal capital territory, FCT, Kogi, Nasarawa and Niger state, were all without the regular power supply for undocumented hours recently.
A statement issued by Ofem Uket, media aide of the minister of state for power, on Tuesday said the president approved a new interim governing board to oversee the company’s day-to-day operations.
“The presidential directives as conveyed also directed the Bureau of Public Enterprises to set up a new management team of the AEDC,” the statement said.
