The Borno State government has announced the provision of 6,000 bicycles for students in the state’s rural areas to encourage them to be punctual.

Mr Abba Wakilbe, the state Commissioner for Education, said this on Wednesday at the inauguration ceremony of Government Technical Secondary School, Wuyo.

The commissioner said 300 bicycles had been given to the inaugurated school for students from the neighbouring village.

Mr Wakilbe also announced that the government had provided 231,000 diverse textbooks to aid learning across the state.

In his remarks, he said Governor Babagana Zulum has directed the provision of necessary equipment for school laboratories and made sure workshops for technical schools are up to standard.

He reiterated that only qualified teachers should be employed in the schools.

The Chairman of Bayo LGA, Alhaji Mohammad Biryel, applauded the siting of the technical school in the area and added that the development would not only address literacy but also give youths the needed training to be self-reliant.
