Barely 24 hours after the reports that the leader of the Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau, committed suicide in the sambisa forest, the acting Inspector General of Police, Alkali Baba, has alerted residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The IGP alerted Abuja residents over plans by the terrorist group to attack the FCT and Jos, the Plateau State Capital.
In a circular signed by his Principal Staff Officer, Idowu Olohunwa, the IGP charged the Commissioners of Police in the FCT and Jos to review their security architecture and beef up security around government facilities in both cities.
According to the IGP, an Intelligence report indicated that Boko Haram terrorists plan to attack major cities in Nigeria, particularly the FCT and Jos, Plateau State.
IGP Alerts Abuja Residents
Meanwhile, the IGP has placed the commissioners of Police in Abuja and Jos on red alert, adding that the terrorist group had chosen Muhammad Sani and one Suleiman to coordinate the proposed attacks.
In the meantime, the Nigerian Military said it is looking into reports about the presumed death of Shekau, leader of the Boko Haram sect. The spokesman for the Nigerian Army, Mohammed Yerima, stated this while reacting to the reports about the death of Shekau.
