Arewa Youths Unveil Plan After Buhari’s Tenure

A group of Northern Youths has revealed that the region still has four more years to rule after President Muhammadu Buhari‘s tenure in 2023. The Arewa Youths Consultative Forum stated this in reaction to the call for a rotational presidency to the South in 2023.

According to the National President of the Forum, Yerima Shettima former Presidents, Goodluck Jonathan, Olusegun Obasanjo ruled Nigeria for 14 years favouring the South.

Shetimma added that the late Musa Yar’Adua and Buhari would have headed for ten years in 2023; hence the North has four years outstanding. He opined that the Southern governors could not intimidate the Northern region with such decisions.

President of the Arewa Youths further stated that the decision of the Southern governors is not binding on Nigerians and Northerners, adding that nobody will abide by such a resolution.

The Forum recalled that Ex-President Goodluck Jonathan took over as an acting president in 2009 and 2011 after Yar’Adua, who only ruled for two years.

During a meeting in Lagos State, Southern governors had demanded that the Southern part of the country produce Nigeria’s next president in 2023.

Arewa Youths had reported that a Fulani group identified as Gan Allah Fulani Development Association has reacted to the ban of open grazing in the southwest and south-south regions.

The National Secretary of the Fulani Association, Ibrahim Abdullahi, described the decision as unfortunate and capable of putting Nigeria’s unity on the line. He added that the resolution was impossible because the governors have not made an alternative plan for herders.

According to him, the ban on open grazing would promote hatred between Southerners and Northerners. He opined that the resolution reached to ban open grazing does not promote unity.

Abdullahi further explained that the south governors could not stop people’s means of livelihood and expect peace to reign, adding that such a move implies that the unity of Nigeria is going to be in question.
