The much-talked-about Nollywood movie, Anikulapo, is now hopeful of being selected for the 2022 Oscars award after the academy made a u-turn on their decision.
The Nigeria Oscar Selection Committee has earlier declared that no Nigerian movie would be submitted for the Oscars award as they deem them “not worthy.”
In a recent development, the academy has given the NOSC another chance to select a Nigerian movie for the ‘International Feature Film’ category by October 21, 2022.
Reacting to the news, Kunle Afolayan, the producer of the movie, took to his social media handle to express hope in being selected.
Afolayan tweeted, “It’s just been confirmed that The academy “OSCARS” have given the Nigerian Oscars selection committee a week extension to revote and re-present a film to represent Nigeria by October 21st latest God’s hand is in this one I believe! Anikulapo on my mind.”
Anikulapo tells the story of Saro, a zealous traveller seeking greener pastures in the native Oyo Kingdom, whose circumstances and affair with the Alaafin’s wife led to his untimely death.
An encounter with a mystical bird gave him another shot at life with the power to achieve the unimaginable.
