HISTORY
It is formerly known as Lagos airport. The airport was renamed Murtala Mohammed International Airport in the mid 1970s. It was named after Nigerian former military head of state. It was initially built during World II. The international terminal of the airport was modeled after Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. It is the main base for Nigeria’s largest airline, Arik Air. In 2010, it is said to serve 6,273,545 passengers.
FACILITIES
It consists of an International and a domestic terminal, located about one kilometer from each other. Both terminals share the same runway. It includes the headquarters of the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN); the airport regulatory body in Nigeria. It also houses the head office of the Accident Investigation Bureau. The Lagos office of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority is located in the Aviation house on the grounds of it. Arik Air’s head office is in the aviation center on the ground. Aero contractors have its head office in the private terminal of the domestic wing.
