The Chairman of African Action Congress, AAC, Edo State Chapter, Comrade J.C. Hafiz Lawal has announced that members of the party will not be participating in the Saturday, September 19 Edo State governorship elections.
Comrade Lawal said the decision to boycott the elections is in protest of the exclusion of the party’s candidate from the ballot.
It was gathered that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC had removed the name of the candidate of the party, Edith Isokpan, from contesting in the election.
Meanwhile, the party said while it was challenging the decision of the electoral body before the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, party members will not be voting in the elections.
Comrade Lawal, however, expressed optimism that the party would get justice in court over the unlawful exclusion of its candidate from the Edo governorship elections.
AAC added that INEC officials witnessed its primary election, which according to it was peaceful and orderly but omitted the party from the log without any concrete explanation.
According to the party, every Nigerians from across tribes, religion, race, colour, sex, and on the required age bracket, is eligible to contest elective positions in Nigeria as enshrined in Nigeria’s constitution.
The AAC further demanded that the party and its candidate be returned to the ballot while damages should be paid to the party for losing its members to the opposition parties.
