The Abia State University, ABSU, has banned students from driving privately owned vehicles on campus.
The management ban was contained in a press statement issued on Tuesday by the Registrar, Dr Acho Elendu.
The ban is meant to curb the menace of the extravagant show of fraudulently gotten wealth by internet fraudsters popularly known as ‘Yahoo Boys‘.
The statement partly read, “Henceforth, only staff and accredited visitors would be allowed to drive their vehicles into the campus.”
“Any student who violates this directive, which is in the interest of the University community, shall face severe disciplinary action.”
ABSU is not the first higher institution to ban students from driving a private car on campus, as the war against an unnecessary show of fraudulent affluence continues in higher institutions.
This is coming a day after London-based publication “Financial Times” pegged the cost of electing a president in Nigeria at $2 billion, about N1 trillion.
