Becoming is a non-fictional book; a memoir of former United States of America First Lady Michelle Obama. The book was published by Crown in 2018 and was said to be released in 24 languages. One million copies is said to be donated to First Book, an American non-profit organization which provides books to children. Becoming was described by Michelle Obama as a deeply personal experience, talks about her roots and how she found her voice. It also talks about her time in the White House, her public health campaign and her role as a mother. The book has 24 chapters of 400 pages. The book sold more copies than any other book published in the United States in 2018, breaking the record in just 15days.
BOOK SUMMARY
Becoming is divided into three sections which are; Becoming Me, Becoming Us and Becoming More. The first section, Becoming Me traces Obama’s early life growing up on the South side of Chicago, through her education at Princeton University and Harvard Law School. It also discusses her early career as a lawyer at the Law firm Sidley Austin, where she met Barack Obama. The second section; Becoming Us depart from the beginning of their romantic relationship and follow their marriage, the beginning of his political career in the Illinois State Senate. It also includes the election night in 2008 when Barack Obama was elected President of the United States. The last section; Becoming More describes their life as First Family i.e. the head of state, the first spouse and their children.

The review aggregates website Book Marks reported that 18% of critics gave the book a ‘’rave’’ review, whilst 73% of the critics expressed ‘’positive’’ impressions based on sample of 22 reviews. It was an Oprah’s Book Club 2.0 selection.
This is a book to read for females especially. It is one of the widely most read books in 2018.
