Suspected Nigerian internet fraudster, Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi, recently hired himself a new lawyer to continue representing him in his ongoing legal battle. Here are the important details about Hushpuppi’s new lawyer.
How Hushpuppi’s new lawyer came about and facts about him
Hushpuppi was the centre of a major raid in the United Arab Emirates where he, alongside a couple others were arrested and charged with internet fraud and other related crimes. He initially hired top Chicago Criminal Defence Attorney, Gal Pissetzky, to represent him in the legal battle.
In January this year, however, Gal Pissetzky and Vicki Podberesky applied before a US District Court to withdraw from representing Hushpuppi, stating that he halted communication with them and had gotten new lawyers to defend him.
A Judge granted their withdrawal from the case on February 22nd, and a request seeking the approval of Louis J. Shapiro, Esq. as Hushpuppi’s new lawyer and defence counsel was granted on February 25.
Mr Shapiro earned his law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and began his career with the New York State Attorney General, Elliot Spitzer.
Shapiro is a certified criminal law specialist by the State Bar of California, and he concentrates his practice on white and blue-collar criminal defence.
He serves as a CJA Federal Trial Panel attorney for the Central District of California. He aggressively, creatively, and successfully represents clients in a wide variety of state and federal criminal matters.
