The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has issued a directive on the full enforcement of the COVID-19 Health protection regulations 2021.
The IGP gave the directive to the Assistant Inspectors General of Police in the seventeen zonal commands in the thirty-six states of the Federation and the FCT, Abuja.
He directed them to carry out full enforcement of the COVID-19 Health Protection Regulations 2021 signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari on January 26.
Adamu said officers of the Nigerian Police Force are to ensure full compliance with the Regulations in their respective Areas of Responsibilities to enforce the Coronavirus Disease COVID-19 Regulations 2021.
COVID-19 Regulations
Earlier, President Muhammadu Buhari had mandated the Nigeria Police Force and other agencies of Government mentioned therein to ensure full enforcement of the COVID-19 regulations in public places.
Meanwhile, the IGP further advised officers to show tact, compassion, and empathy while carrying out the order.
He emphasised the need for the officers to be firm and professional, polite, civil, and respect citizens’ fundamental rights.
The IGP said the uncertainty and risks engendered by the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic had placed additional responsibilities on the general public.
However, he called on citizens to voluntarily comply with the Regulations’ provisions for the safety of all.
