The All Progressives Congress, APC has reacted to a statement issued by the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP over the current petrol price and electricity in the country.
The APC in a statement by the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Mr Yekini Nabena said its attention has been drawn to what it described as a shameless statement by the PDP on the new pump price.
The ruling party alleged that the PDP governments foisted on the country a corruption-tainted fuel subsidy regime adding that the opposition party should mount pressure on its cronies who ran the subsidy rackets to return the Nation’s stolen commonwealth in their possession.
According to the APC, the tortuous fuel queues as a result of biting scarcities are gone under President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
Nabena added that the reviewed petroleum products pricing template has resulted in a more transparent, efficient and realistic pricing system for petroleum products and also resulted in a constant availability of fuel nationwide.
Speaking on the hike in electricity price, the APC alleged that the opposition party, PDP is only concerned with pushing the interests of its few cronies over the general interest and welfare of the citizenry.
It argued further that the presidential directive is not only improving electricity and service delivery but also protecting the poor and vulnerable Nigerians from increased electricity tariff and arbitrary/estimated billings.
Nabena stressed that the federal government is already working to ensure that Electricity Distribution Companies (DISCOs) commit to increasing the number of hours of electricity supply everyday and also improve on their quality of service.
Meanwhile, the APC noted that the Buhari-led administration has approved a one-year waiver of import levy on electricity meters so that Nigerians who do not have meters can be supplied as early as possible at a reasonable cost.
However, the party called on the PDP to wake up to the new Nigeria where the government works for the citizens and not a few interests.
