The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has disclosed that there are currently investigating no fewer than 40 cases involving domestic and sexual violence , sexual abuse of minors, rape , incest and sodomy in Nigeria especially during this lockdown period.

Those cases were recorded during the five-week lockdown ordered by President Muhammadu Buhari as part of measures to curb the spread of the deadly virus Coronavirus, according to the agency.
The agency also reported that some people took advantage of the time to unleash abuse towards their loved ones who are mainly women and that more than 400 people have been arrested for human trafficking.
This announcement was made by NAPTIP Director-General Julie Okah-Donli at the commissioning of a water project donated to the LEA elementary school in Jahi 1, Abuja by the ex-beauty queen and founder, African Scholars Care Initiative (ASCI), Joy Onumajuru-Osomiamhe.
She warned that the agency would not hesitate to invoke the applicable laws for dealing with anyone found disrupting the nation’s peace at this time
