Nasarawa State has recorded another confirmed case of coronavirus. This was disclosed by Abdullahi Sule, governor of the state while giving an update on the Coronavirus situation in the state on Tuesday.
The governor said the new case is a driver with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), who transports test samples for the agency in Abuja and that he got infected in the process.
He revealed that the driver, who resides in Ado in Karu local government area of the state, was declared positive on Tuesday morning. The governor added that the patient had been moved to the isolation centre at the Federal Medical Centre, Keffi, Nasarawa state for treatment.
He also stated that the state had taken delivery of 6,000 personal protective equipment (PPE), 50,000 imported face mask, as well as 50,000, locally produced face mask by the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
He urged the people of the state to comply with all government’s directives on Coronavirus in order to prevent the spread of the disease. With the new case, Nasarawa state has 12 confirmed cases of Coronavirus and one death.
According to the latest figures published by Johns Hopkins University, 3,630,942 cases have been detected worldwide, with 254,592 deaths and 1,184,625 people now recovered.
On the 5th of May 2020, 148 new confirmed cases and 5 deaths were recorded in Nigeria. No new state has reported a case in the last 24 hours.
Till date, 2950 cases have been confirmed, 481 cases have been discharged and 98 deaths have been recorded in 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The 148 new cases are reported from 17 states- Lagos(43), Kano(32), Katsina(9), FCT(10), Zamfara(14), Taraba(7), Borno(7), Ogun(6), Oyo(5), Bauchi(3), Edo(3), Kaduna(3), Adamawa(2), Gombe(2), Plateau(1), Sokoto(1), Kebbi(1).
