Many feared dead as 8 storey building collapse in Imo state. Not less that 40 people working at the site of the collapsed building are still trapped in the junk as 8 storey building collapsed at Yardua drive in Owerri today. Evacuation of the injured persons and trapped workers is still ongoing at the site of the collapse.
While interracting with the survivors, many are of the opinion that the weak structure was the cause of the collapse. Some alleged that the pillars were too weak to support a building of that magnitude.

A live statement fro one of the survivors says:
“I was very close to the building when I heard a crack around the pillars and I started running and before you know it it is like the sound of a bomb. The story building fell down.

“We are working in different departments I can’t count the actual number. We are many. We may be up to 40 in number. They have taken five people to the hospital. They were badly injured.”

“We are up to 20 in number, we have those mixing cement. We have those pouring cement. There are plenty of people. We pray that God will help them come out alive.”

This is such great tragedy for the people of Imo. Members of Red Cross Society and well meaning individuals are putting effort to make sure all trapped workers are rescued and that the causalties are treated as soon as possible.
