Abdulrasheed Maina sentenced to sixty-one years imprisonment caused a major scene at the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Both officials of the Nigerian Correctional Services, NCoS, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, entered a heated argument about who takes possession of the ex-pension boss.
The drama occurred yesterday in the Federal Capital Terrritory, FCT, immediately after the judge pronounced the jail term for the former chairman of the now-defunct Pension Reforms Task Team.
However, while Maina was led out of the courtroom by prison officials who were on standby after receiving judgment, the anti-graft agency felt they deserved to place him under their facility.
Meanwhile, Justice Okon Abang, who coordinated the proceedings after sentencing Maina to jail, ruled that he should be with the NCoS.
Maina Sentenced to 61 Years Imprisonment
As contained in a video posted online, the anti-corruption agency and those from the Nigerian prisons camp could be seen confronting themselves over the ex-pension boss’ custody.
Eventually, the moment their argument ended, NCoS regained custody of the accused.
Maina’s sixty-one years’ imprisonment and his arraignment on twelve count charges, bordering on money laundering, will be expended concurrently for eight years.
