The keto diet has in recent years gained a lot of awareness as it has become a very popular tool for weight loss. A lot of people advocate the new style dieting as a way of staying healthy. There are currently multiple Facebook and WhatsApp pages and groups advocating the importance and possibility of Keto dieting.
To some group of people, the idea of restricting the diet of a full grown adult as much as keto does is unhealthy. They say the body needs all the food classes and sources to function properly. To some other people, they believe that the supply of some food classes in lesser quantities is all required for healthy living.
However, no matter the propositions, it still does not erase the fact that the Keto diet has got some downsides to it, some of which include:
The Keto Flu: a lot of people report that when they start Keto, they just feel sick. There can be vomiting sometimes and a lot of fatigue. Although reports show that this passes away after a few days, it can, however, be fatal in some cases. This flu or fatigue, so to say, occurs as a result of the body running out of sugar and needing to start using fat. The process is enough to make you feel extreme weakness.
Keto Diarrhea: some people also experience this as soon as they get on the diet. It is usually a result of a lack of fiber in the diet. Switching from high carb food to low carb can significantly reduce the amount of fiber in one’s system.
Reduced Athletic Activities: as much as some people think Keto diet help people become healthier and perform better in sports, the fatigue caused by intensive reduction in carbs intake can hinder sports activities and performance.
Makes social gatherings harder to organize: can you imagine if you are having plans to have a house birthday party and you realize that most of your guests are on different stages of a keto diet. Now, can you imagine the rigmarole your head will be going through while trying to figure out the menu? You can as well tell them to come along bring their food.
Low Energy level: Being on Keto diet results in the person having low energy level because of the reduction in sugar and carbohydrate in-take. This can cause blood sugar level to drop and might result in some complex reactions. In some cases, the high level of fatigue might have a bad effect on job quality and delivery. This can also affect family relations and other activities, especially at the initial stage.
So, if you are thinking of going on a keto diet, being aware of these downsides can influence your decision.
