The 2nd Niger Bridge will bear the name of President Muhammadu Buhari, but not that of the immediate past leader, Goodluck Jonathan.
The President’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, hinted this yesterday via a social media post he made while giving an update on the project.
Making several tweets, Ahmad revealed pictures of the ongoing project, a 1.6km bridge seen as a major connection point between two economically vital regions in Nigeria.
BashirAhmad’s tweets reads in part, “Ladies and gentlemen, the Muhammadu Buhari Bridge (MBB), a 1.6KM Bridge that will be a major connection point between two economically vital regions in Nigeria.”

However, Many Twitter users kicked against the idea of naming the bridge after the President and insisted that the credit must be given to the initiator of the project.
@Greenaetion said “It is not his Bridge and it can never be. It wasn’t him who initiated the project neither did he use his salary to construct the Bridge. That’s 2nd Niger Bridge or Southern Link Bridge.
Also, @oriji_gbenga said this administration is trying to name the bridge like that of Ibrahim Babaginda Bridge (IBB) that was later changed to 3rd mainland bridge, let them named the bridge whatever name they feel like calling it, we’ll change it to 2nd Niger Bridge after their tenure. ‘Masses dey suffer.’
