There are indications that the 2023 Governorship Elections may not hold as scheduled following new developments since the conclusion of the presidential.
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC proposed to the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal to consider adjusting the directives issued to the aggrieved Presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP and Labour Party, LP.
The Tribunal permitted Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi to inspect materials used for the last presidential election based on their suspicion of foul play in the collation process.
INEC prayed the court permits them to access the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, BVAS, and format the device to its default settings to enable them seamlessly conduct the gubernatorial elections on Saturday, March 11, 2023.
The reason for their request is that the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal blocked the Commission from tampering with the BVAS so that the Atiku and Obi-led camps could analyse the votes without any manipulations.
Hence, since they can’t touch the device until PDP and LP are done scrutinizing it, the act might hinder the flow of the Governorship Elections if the BVAS is not reset to its former state.
