Controversial social media figure Martins Vincent Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has drawn significant attention after his newly launched Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) received ₦33 million in donations within 24 hours. The NGO, announced on Saturday, October 12, 2024, is dedicated to community development and improving public schools.
VDM, known for his activism and bold presence online, shared the news with his Instagram followers via a video posted on his handle, @verydarkblackman. In the video, he called on his supporters to contribute, emphasizing transparency and accountability in managing the funds. He also mentioned public figures like Davido and Cubana Chief Priest, reminding them of their offers to help when needed.
“I will be very transparent. I will post the money that was contributed online for everyone to see, and I will carry everyone along. Every money will be well accounted for,” VDM assured in his post, encouraging donations of any size, including as small as ₦5.
A day later, VDM took to Instagram again, revealing that over ₦33 million had been donated in just 24 hours. He expressed deep gratitude to his supporters, noting that many of the donations were small amounts, mostly below ₦500. The activist highlighted that the volume of contributions demonstrated the goodwill and support of everyday Nigerians, even those with limited financial means.
“The love is massive. Most of these people no get, but they still want to support me. I started seeing amounts like ₦72, ₦100, ₦50, and ₦500. It shows people want to help, no matter what they have,” he said.
VDM has been in the public eye recently, following his vocal criticism of alleged corruption involving Nigerian crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.
