The government of the United Kingdom represented by their High Commissioner, Catriona Laing has reacted to the EndSars campaign that has taken over the country in recent times. The United Kingdom has asked the Nigerian government to expect the rights of its citizens while they protest against police brutality.
Catriona took to twitter to express the concerns of the British government on the 11th of October. She commended the government on the recent announcement made by the Inspector-General of police to disband the F-SARS unit and encouraged the police to uphold the human rights of the citizens while trying to abolish the various forms of police brutality netted out on the Nigerian public.
She touched on the cases of violence against protesters in various states saying,
“Hearing reports of violence affecting ongoing protests. Urge authorities to respect the right to protest and protestors to remain peaceful. @UKinNigeria.”
Despite the announcement on the dissolution of SARS, Nigerians nationwide continue to protest for the complete scrapping of the unit and also insist on hearing from a final authority and the unit has been dissolved in 2017, 2018 and 2019 but continue to be in existence.
