Christmas season is a period many people look forward to. The festive period is a time to unwind and celebrate after a hectic year. Nigeria is one of the best places to visit at this time of the year to relax, have fun and enjoy with loved ones. There are several events lined up in many places all over the country; you can’t afford to miss any one scheduled to take place in your area.
Christmas is widely celebrated all over the world to commemorate the birth of Jesus. This period also falls in the end of the year so non-Christians too have reasons to celebrate even if it is for the fact that they make it to this time of the year. As for the Christians, the mood is about celebrating Jesus and this is done by having carols of songs, nativity plays, and other events in churches. In the secular world, end of the year conventions for industries and businesses are held in this time of the year as well as musical concerts by artistes all over the word.
Nigerians are known to be fun lovers; we are the definition of the ‘life of the party’. After a year of hustle and bustle, the Christmas period is used to count our blessings and as so party hard. Many Nigerians are on the road at this time of the year to meet with their loved ones, have fun with them, while others use the period to prepare for the New Year.
The Nigerian city of Lagos is definitely one of the best places to be at this time of the year. In fact, the season begins as from December 1 in this part of the country. Many schedule their celebrations such as wedding, thanksgiving, and so on during this period because of the fact that many of their relatives and well-wishers would be around. ‘Owambe’ is a popular slang used for outings and this is very popular in the mega city of Lagos. Many of the top events for the season takes place in Lagos even though there are events in other parts of the country, the Lagos events stands tall.

The Experience: The reason for the season is to celebrate the new born king Jesus. ‘The Experience’ which is acclaimed to be the biggest of Gospel concert in Africa is used to worship Jesus. It is a free-all night Gospel concert with exceptional gospel music featuring some of the most celebrated recording artistes of our time. This event was birthed by the Senior Pastor of the House on The Rock, Paul Adefarasin. The event which started in December 2001 has brought several hundreds of thousands of people in attendance from all over the world. This year’s event is tagged ‘’Worship Jesus’’ and comes up on the 6th of December 2019 from 7pm till dawn at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Onikan, Lagos. It would be featuring award-winning gospel artistes like Nathaniel Bassey, Sinach, Don Moen, Donnie McClurkin, Tope Alabi, Todd Dulaney, Chioma Jesus, Sammie Okposo, Eben, Onos, and many others.
Worship at The Sea: This is another exciting event lined up to worship Jesus by the Christians. Worship can be done anywhere and the one slated for the seaside would definitely be soul lifting and one to look out for. This event put together by Tenstrings Music Institute will gather at least 3000 worshippers at Lekki Leisure Lake, Lagos for the first of its kind on the 14th of December 2019. It is said to be a 3.5 hours of pure, uninterrupted worship on a beautiful Saturday morning.
Livespot Festival: Nigerians can’t wait to meet with American Grammy-award-winning female rapper, Cardi B who would be visiting Africa for the first time. She is set to perform in Nigeria on the 7th and Accra, Ghana on the 8th of December 2019. Cardi B is expected to be joined on stage by other Nigerians acts. It will be a gathering of thrilling performances with a mix of quality sound, great music, food, drinks, and an awesome all-round experience. The Nigerian event will be held at Victoria Island, Lagos.
AYE Convention: This is an event for those preparing for the New Year by setting new goals and aiming to achieve it. The Africa’s Young Entrepreneurs (AYE) Convention 2019 will be held in Akure, Ondo State on the 14th of December 2019 at the magnificent Dome Convention Center. This year’s event is tagged ‘’Entrepreneurship Intervention for Poverty Eradication’’. This event will gather thousands of young entrepreneurs in Africa. It will have in attendance guest speakers like Aisha Buhari, Rotimi Akeredolu, Summy Francis, Sunday Dare, and many others.
DJ Spinall Party of Your Dreams: This is an event by one of Nigeria’s finest disc jockey DJ Spinall. It will be a 5 hours high energy performance by DJ Spinall to thrill his fans and music lovers. The event will also include live performances by some of Nigeria’s top artistes and DJs. This will be the 5th edition of ‘The Party of Your Dreams’’ hosted by the Smirnoff Ice ambassador. It will be held on the 15th of December 2019 at Balmoral Hall, Federal Palace Hotel, V.I Lagos.
The Mayor of Lagos Fest: The self-acclaimed Mayor of Lagos, Mayorkun of the DMW Music label will also paint Lagos red in a 3-day massive festival and is set to hold from the 13th through to the 15th of December, 2019. This year’s event will be held at the Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island. Mayorkun hass had a very good year and will thrive his fans to his latest jams as well as thrilling performances from other label mates and top Nigerian artistes.
The Billionaire Experience (Teni Live in Concert): The year 2019 has been a very good one for the Dr. Dolor entertainment act, Teni Apata popularly known as Teni. The multiple-award winner is set to thrill her fans with a live performance tagged ‘’The Billionaire Experience’’. She is set to give back to her fans who have kept her going all these years. The ‘Billionaire’ crooner wants to paint the billionaire life in her concert which is set to hold on the 16th of December 2019 by 6pm at the Eko Convention Center, Lagos.
Zlatan Live: Rave of the moment, Zlatan Ibile will also have his first ever concert on the 18th of December 2019. The ‘Zanku’ & ‘Gbeku’ dances creator will thrill his fans with an energetic and exciting performance at the Balmoral Convention Center, Victoria Island, Lagos. Other A-list music artistes will also be joining the street sensation on stage.
Flytime Music Festival: If you’re a fan of diva Tiwa Savage, then you can catch up with her live at the Flytime Music Festival which is set to hold at the Eko Convention Center, for 5 days in a row (20th -25th). This is part of the programs lined up to mark the 15th year anniversary of Flytime Promotions. Other artistes to perform at the festival include Boys II Men, Koffee, Megan Thee Stallion, among others.
2baba Live: one of the most anticipated event coming up in this festive period is the 2baba Live concert which is set to mark the 20th year in the Nigerian music industry of the legendary act. The concert which is tagged ‘’20 Years A King’’ will have A-list Nigerian artistes and friends of 2baba in attendance. The concert is scheduled to hold on the 28th of December 2019 at the Eko Convention Center.
Laff Mattazz with Maltina: The people of Ekiti state will be treated with comedy and music by the Maltina beverages sponsored event tagged ‘’Laff Mattaz with Maltina’’. This event hosted by comedian Gbenga Adeyinka will also have in attendance many other top comedians and musicians to thrill the people. This comedy event will take place on the 29th of December 2019 at AB Civic Center Ado Ekiti, Ekiti state. Mark the date and prepare to end the year on an exciting mood.
Marlian Fest: Controversial Nigerian artist, Naira Marley who has had a mixed feeling year will be ending it in grand style with his festival tagged ‘Marlian Fest’. Naira Marley has been followed since the saga with the EFCC and has thrilled his fans called ‘Marlians’ with hits after hits since leaving the EFCC custody. The 2019 Marlian Fest is set to hold on the 30th of December at the Eko Convention Center, Victoria Island, Lagos. You can join other Marlians to end the year with great energy and vibes.
