Tiwa Savage, in a recent interview has disclosed how she met her ex-husband, Tee Billz.
Tiwa Savage made this known in a chat with popular TV host, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on ‘Blackbox Interview’.
The songstress discussed her music journey so far and had to talk about the ex-husband.
According to Tiwa Savage, she was introduced to Tee Billz while she was trying to get signed to a record label in the US where she lived then.
She had been inspired by the works of Nigerian singers such as Dbanj and had to leave the American music scene and return home.
Tee Billz received Tiwa’s CD having learnt he’s into African music and had worked with artist like Sauce Kid to release ‘Yebariba’ song which was a hit.
The mother-of-one said she met Tee Billz for the first time in a concert by Timaya in LA having sent her CD. She stated that her friend to her that’s the guy you sent a CD.
Tiwa said she walked up to him and said, “Why didn’t you call me back? (laughs) My name is Tiwa. I sent you my CD why haven’t you called back?”
According to her, Tee Billz hasn’t listened to the CD then and had to tell him to listen. Although Tee Billz felt her sound was feisty after listening to the CD, he was impressed by her vocals.
This was the beginning of their activity that led to a marriage in 2013 and a son (Jamil). The duo have moved on since 2017 but sources says they are in good terms, giving their son the necessary support.
Tiwa Savage also stated in the interview that she rejected by Banky W’s EME and some other record labels on her arrival to Nigeria. She however got signed by Don jazzy before leaving for UMG Record label.
