Renowned rapper Falz has addressed the ongoing controversy surrounding social critic VeryDarkMan (VDM) following a series of accusations made against him and his father. In a recent interview with media personality Adesope, Falz candidly discussed his perspective on VDM’s activism and the allegations that have sparked public interest.
When asked about his knowledge of VDM’s work, Falz admitted, “I don’t know much of it, prior to the first video he shared talking about me and my dad. I hadn’t seen much of him.” He noted that he had seen some of VDM’s content concerning public health issues, stating, “At the time when I saw some of those clips, I was like this person must be doing something right, this is a good course.”
However, tensions escalated when VDM released a video in September, alleging that Falz and his father were involved in corrupt practices, including manipulating justice and bribing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). Falz responded to these claims with outrage, emphasizing the baseless nature of the accusations. He expressed, “Absolutely no proof. Why would you just come and allege all these things with absolutely nothing to support this statement?”
In a bid to clear his name, Falz revealed that his legal counsel has contacted the individual VDM claims made the statements about him and his father. According to Falz, that person has denied any wrongdoing, stating that “no money was paid to him or his dad.”
Falz confirmed he had initiated legal action for defamation of character, emphasizing the seriousness of the allegations. “He who alleges must prove,” he stated, underscoring his determination to fight back legally. He added, “The case of defamation is still very much in court.”
The rapper also mentioned a court order instructing VDM to remove the video containing the allegations. Despite this, Falz claims VDM has refused to comply. “In my defamation suit, I am going to ask for damages because that is the only remedy available in a civil suit,” he explained. “I would have you know that there is a criminal angle to defamation. I chose not to go that route.”
Reflecting on the situation, Falz noted the public perception of his family’s legal actions, stating, “Now the narrative is that me and my family want to oppress this guy because we have legal muscle…. Come on man! I do not look for trouble. I am always on my own.”
In a tense phone conversation with VDM, Falz reported that VDM was defensive, telling him, “Shebi you are a lawyer, go to court!” Falz interpreted this as an indication that VDM was seeking litigation, questioning the motives behind such a stance.
As the legal battle unfolds, the rapper remains steadfast in defending his reputation against what he describes as unfounded and damaging accusations. The public awaits further developments in this high-profile clash between the two figures.
