It’s the middle of 2019 already. And so far, the Nigerian music scene this year has been unusually sparse with the release of party/dancehall songs. There have been a few, but “few” does not normally characterize the amount of hit dancehall songs churned out yearly. That doesn’t stop us from partying anyway. In the spirit of Friday, we have made a list of 5 party songs that are still rocking dance floors around the country.
Timaya – Balance
This song is so hard to get of your mind once you have heard it. The refrain, “balance” (pronounced with an extra sound representing the otherwise silent last letter “e”), makes it even harder. The beat is slow, but it is danceable. And we can’t get enough of it.
Mayorkun ft Kizz Daniel – True
Barely one week old, Nigerian party goers have already caught on with it and it has become a growing sensation in clubs and party gatherings, especially in Lagos. Mayorkun and Kizz Daniel know how to rile up the party.
Burna Boy – Dangote
Burna Boy had an amazing 2018. He gave us so many hits last year and he didn’t hesitate to give us a couple more this year. “Dangote” is one of such songs.
Burna Boy – Thuggin’
This is one of those slow-paced songs Burna has become known for. It is the kind of dance you can do sitting down while sipping on whatever is in your cup. It matters not if it’s sprite or vodka.
Olamide – Oil and Gas
Olamide has mastered the art of capturing the heart of party goers. Since his entry into the industry it has been one hit after the other, “back to back”, in his own words. Oil and Gas is no exception. You don’t need to know the lyrics, the beat is hippy enough to get you waltzing.
Go party and be merry, friends.
