The Minister of State, Labour, and Employment Minister, Festus Keyamo has revealed that the Federal Government’s Special Public Works Programme that engages 774,000 unemployed Nigerians would to take-off nationwide on Tuesday, January 5th, 2021.
According to a tweet by Bashir Ahmad, the Personal Assistant on New Media to President Muhammadu Buhari, all National Directorate of Employment, NDE state structures are already in top gear for the take-off ceremonies.
Special Public Works Programme
Earlier, the Minister has confirmed that President Buhari has approved the take-off of the Programme to engage unemployed Nigerians across the 774 Local Government Areas in the country.
It was gathered that the Special Public Works Programme is part of the federal government’s efforts to mitigate the socio-economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 774,000 workers are to be paid 20,000 naira monthly for three months.
Keyamo noted that the areas of engagement include Drainage Desilting and maintenance, irrigation, rural feeder road maintenance, great green walls Nurseries, and Orchard maintenance.
Others are traffic control, public infrastructure cleaning, and maintenance.
