Captain Irabor described the incident as unfortunate but said the situation is far from any attack on the metropolis. He called on people to go about their normal business.

During the attack, residents of Damaturu say sporadic gunshots were heard along Damaturu-Gashua-Babbangida axis around 5:30pm, forcing them to remain indoors for their safety.
He said that troops engaged the insurgents “with the timely arrival of air taskforce and that troops “are on top of the situation’’.
