Some residents of Kano State who are in support of the newly launched police unit, Special Weapons And Tactics, SWAT and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS on Wednesday trooped out en mass to throw their weight behind the police unit.
It was gathered that the Pro-SARS/ SWAT supporters marched to the Kano State government House to deliver a letter of support for SARS and SWAT.
Receiving the pro-SARS/ SWAT supporters, the state governor, Umar Ganduje, received the letter and promised to deliver it to President Muhammadu Buhari.
You will recall that the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu had on Monday announced that SWAT will relace the defunct SARS given the nationwide protests that was staged to call for the scrapping of the police unit.
5 Facts About The Newly-Created Tactical Team
1. The Nigerian Police Force has on Wednesday, October 14 announced that no personnel of the defunct SARS will be selected to be part of the new tactical team.
2. Also, the force noted that operations of the new Tactical team will be strictly intelligence-driven.
3. Members of the new tactical team will be no means embark on routine patrol.
4. Members of the new tactical team are barred from an indiscriminate and unlawful search of phones, laptops and other smart devices.
5. Operatives of the new tactical team must be free of any pending disciplinary matter especially those touching on misuse of firearms and abuse of human rights.
