A wave of outrage has erupted following a powerful petition by Nigerian lawyer and activist, Maduabuchi Idam, demanding that the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) either regulate or completely ban Big Brother Naija (BBNaija) within 30 days.
Citing what he described as “obscene, indecent, and profane content,” Idam’s petition, titled “Urgent Need to Ban or Regulate the Content of the Television Programme Described as ‘Big Brother Naija,’” accuses the show of becoming a national embarrassment that endangers societal values.

The petition, addressed to the NBC Director General and shared publicly via Facebook, specifically targets intimate and controversial scenes recently aired during Season 10, which he claims violate the NBC Act of 1999.
“The programme has degenerated into a festival of indecency and a glorification of immorality,” the petition reads.
Idam insists that unless immediate action is taken, the moral decay promoted by the reality show could cause lasting damage to Nigerian youths and society at large.
The demand has triggered heated debate nationwide, dividing citizens between those calling for moral accountability in media, and others defending BBNaija’s place as a reflection of modern entertainment and youth culture.
With the clock ticking on Idam’s 30-day ultimatum, all eyes are now on NBC. Will it fold under mounting public pressure or defend the controversial reality show that continues to dominate headlines and airwaves?
