In a move that has sent tremors across the political landscape of Osun State, Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally announced the Accord Party as his new political home ahead of the 2026 governorship election. The declaration, made on Tuesday at the Government House Banquet Hall in Osogbo, marks one of the most significant political realignments in the state in recent years.

Surrounded by national and state leaders of the Accord Party, Adeleke revealed that he officially defected on November 6, 2025, following extensive consultations with key stakeholders and political influencers across Osun. His spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, confirmed that many within the state were already aware of the underlying reasons for Adeleke’s shift, describing it as a strategic move aligned with the governor’s ideology.
Explaining his decision, Adeleke said the Accord Party’s core philosophy resonates with his administration’s commitment to welfarism and citizen-centered governance.
“We opted for the Accord Party because its mission of welfarism aligns with our passionate focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare,” he said, adding that governance must always place the well-being of the people above all else.
The governor used the occasion to rally party members and leaders toward a unified front as the 2026 governorship race draws closer. He called for inclusive leadership, urging members to maintain cohesion and work together for a victorious outcome.
“We are united in progress and good intentions for the good people of Osun State and Nigeria at large,” he said.
Adeleke also highlighted the positive reception he has received since joining the Accord Party, praising its philosophy and reaffirming that his administration’s policies remain deeply rooted in improving the lives of Osun residents.
Declaring the Accord Party as the new political vehicle for the state, he called on citizens from all zones Osun West, Osun East, and Osun Central to embrace the platform.
“From Igbomina to Ijeshaland, Ifeland, Osogbo, Iwoland, Modakeke, Gbongan, Igbajo, Ikire, Ikirun, Ede and beyond, this is our party, our new platform for victory come August next year,” he declared.
Concluding his announcement, Adeleke made his new allegiance official:
“In accordance with the will of our stakeholders and in deep respect for the wishes of Osun people, I hereby declare for the Accord Party.”
With this defection, Osun’s political arena is set for a fierce and unpredictable battle as the 2026 governorship election draws near.
