The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has addressed the recent arrest of convicted cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky. Social media influencer and activist Martins Otse, known as VeryDarkMan, had earlier shared the news on Instagram. This follows the submission of a report by an investigative panel examining claims that Bobrisky was kept out of prison despite serving a six-month sentence.
The report dismissed the allegations, and the Interior Minister affirmed that those involved in any wrongdoing would face legal consequences. Confirming Bobrisky’s arrest, the NIS Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Udo, stated that the cross-dresser was apprehended at the Seme Border while attempting to flee the country. Udo noted that Bobrisky is considered a “person of interest” and is currently under interrogation. He will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation.
Udo reassured the public that the NIS remains committed to maintaining professionalism and upholding its responsibilities in safeguarding the nation’s borders. Otse claimed that Bobrisky’s arrest was linked to efforts to evade an ongoing investigation by the House of Representatives. He also referenced leaked audio where Bobrisky allegedly confessed to bribing prison officials to avoid serving his sentence, as well as involvement in a money laundering case allegedly dropped by the EFCC.
According to Otse, Bobrisky was attempting to enter Benin Republic to escape the investigation. “He is reportedly in the custody of Nigerian immigration. Let’s see if Bob will deny this,” Otse added.
