Sex scandal doesn’t seem to be slowing down despite several successful indictments recorded in different universities of various states.
The Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, which has registered some sexual harassment cases in recent times, has again recorded a new incident.
A press statement issued by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, revealed this information to the public’s notice yesterday.
At its last sitting on Tuesday 7, 2021, the University Council deliberated over the incident involving Dr Adebayo Mosobalaje of the Department of English Language in the Faculty of Arts.
And following the various accusations levelled against Dr Mosobalaje, the Governing Council of OAU University, Ile-Ife, decided to fire the sexually intoxicated lecturer found guilty of bothering a female student for sex.
Sex Scandal: OAU’s Zero Tolerance for Sexual Harasment
The statement read in parts, “Having deliberated exhaustively on the document of the Joint Committee of the Council and Senate, which investigated the case of sexual harassment against Dr Mosobala, the University Council, unambiguously declared its zero tolerance to sexual harassment.”
The school authorities said whether this is coordinated in any way possible would attract the necessary sanctions for such offence once the accused is found wanting.
“It would be recalled that almost two weeks ago, the university management formally inaugurated an ‘anti-sexual harassment policy’ where their excellencies, Erelu Bisi Fayemi (the wife of Ekiti State Governor) and Alhaja Kafayat Oyetola (the wife of Osun State Governor), were present.” It stated.
The duo presented papers on the issue while a former Vice-Chancellor of the Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Professor Yemisi Obilade, delivered the keynote address.
