The Nigerian Senate has again suspended sitting after resuming from their two-week recess and Easter holiday as approved by the federal government.
Plenary has been halted for till April 14, 2021, after the Senate Leader, Yahaya Abdullahi moved a motion over the death of two members of the house.
According to him, this is in line with the house’s tradition, and the move was approved after Senator, Eyinnaya Abaribe who is the Minority Leader of the house, seconded the motion.
It would be recalled that the Senate lost Haruna Maitala from Plateau State in a ghastly motor accident on April 2, 2021.
Similarly, Senator Suleiman Aliyu Lere from Kaduna State died on April 6, 2021, after suffering from an undisclosed ailment.
The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, got unanimous support from the lawmakers when he put the motion to a voice vote while describing the events as sad.
However, a minute silence held in honour of the departed lawmakers as their colleagues prayed for the repose of their souls.
