Despite the order banning the #EndSARS protesters from staging protests in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, protesters on Tuesday gathered in their numbers to stage the #EndSARS protest opposite pleasure park. Though they planned to gather at the pleasure park for the protest.
According to some of the protesters, who spoke with journalists at the venue of the protest, they decided to organize the #EndSARS protest as a way to fight for their fundamental human rights.
Earlier, the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike has warned that all forms of protests have been banned throughout the State noting that all proposed protests under the #EndSars Campaign are prohibited.
In a statement by his Commissioner for Information, Paulinus Nsirim, the governor stated that the decision was taken because the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, had already scrapped the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.
Wike said there is no need for any form of protest against a Unit of the Police Force that no longer exists. However, he advised parents and Guardians are to ensure that their children or wards do not violate the “no protest” order.
He added that law enforcement agencies have been directed to ensure that the ban is enforced and that violators are brought to book.
