The Presidency has announced that President Muhammadu Buhari will on Thursday depart for Bamako, the Republic of Mali on a one-day visit.
According to a press release issued by the Presidency, the peace one day visit followed the briefing by former President Goodluck Jonathan, who is the ECOWAS Special Envoy to Mali.
Buhari and some ECOWAS leaders agreed to meet in Mali to engage in further consultations towards finding a political solution to the crisis in the country.
The ECOWAS leaders will be led by the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the sub-regional organisation, President Issoufou Mahamadou of Niger Republic.
Buhari Embarks On Peace Mission To Mali
You will recall that ex-President, Jonathan, on Tuesday, July 21 visited the Presidential Villa, Abuja to brief Buhari about his recent international mediatory assignment in Mali.
It was gathered that Jonathan during his visit to Mali, recommended the formation of a government of national unity with members drawn from different interest groups in the country, including the ruling coalition, the opposition parties and the civil society.
Mali is currently experiencing a political logjam that has attracted the intervention of African leaders.
