The Presidency has advised people who condemn Nigeria and its citizens from outside the country to desist from doing so, stating that they should be patriotic because there is nothing to gain.
According to the Presidency, Nigerians who ask for foreign intervention in Nigeria’s affairs are behaving in bad faith.
Following the culmination of the Sallah festivities on Wednesday, Senior Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, issued a statement.
Mallam Garba Shehu, in his statement, quoted Katsina State Governor recent description of calls for “foreign powers to interfere in Nigeria’s domestic affairs” as the “highest level of unpatriotism.”
The Senior special assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Media and Publicity advised Nigerians to act as good ambassadors for the country if they want foreigners to think favourably.
In his statement, he stated that there is nothing to gain by criticizing our country, Nigeria, abroad. The report continues, and he went further to say that every person owes their country a debt of gratitude.
In those countries where they travel and speak negative things about Nigeria, their citizenry would never do such a thing. When they go outside, they praise their country. They represent their own country as ambassadors.
He asked why we go out and tell the worst stories of our own country?
The letter Governor (Aminu) Masari (of Katsina State) sent out a few days ago makes this very apparent when he said he believes that Nigerians must evolve. He also said that nobody would do anything for us if we don’t love this country and don’t promote it.
