The comment made by the Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammad Dingyadi did not seat well with many Nigerians, particularly on social media platforms as many have called him out over what he said about the #EndSARS protests and the order issued by the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.
In a tweet, the Minister urged Nigerians to see the dissolution of the Special Anti Robbery Squad, SARS as government’s commitment to deepening relationship between Nigerians and the police. According to the tweet, the dissolution is for better service delivery.
However, he advised Nigerians to continue to work together to secure lives and property.
Reacting to the tweet, many Twitter users said they were surprised that Nigeria has Inspector-General of Police, Minister of Police Affairs, Minister of States Polices Affairs, Chairman Police Service Commission Chairman, Senate Committee on Police Affairs, and Chairman House of Reps Committee on Police Affairs and yet police brutality is on high sides.
As of the time of filing this report, the tweet by the Minister has garnered over 3,000 comments with many people narrating their ordeal in the hands of some SARS operatives.
According to one of the Twitter users, about four policemen pointed a gun at protesters in Abuja on Sunday adding that over twenty protesters were also arrested for holding a peaceful protest.
