A Nigerian soldier and a lance corporal attached to the Army 27 Task Force Brigade in Buni Gari, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State has reportedly committed suicide.
TheCable reported that the soldier, who was deployed to fight Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East left a note for his wife before killing himself on Thursday at his duty post.
A military source said the soldier died immediately after shooting himself in the head before other soldiers could even rush to help.
Meanwhile, his body has been evacuated and sources said an investigation into what led to the incident was in progress.
You will recall that in July 2020, a soldier in the army’s 202 Battalion in Bama, Borno State, killed a lieutenant, who did not give him pass to visit his family (Read more here).
Also in 2019, a soldier hanged himself in Abuja while another soldier committed suicide after killing his superior in 2017.
