Deputy Governor
While the spread of coronavirus continues in Nigeria, a Deputy Governor in Nigeria has been confirmed positive to the virus that has killed over three hundred thousand in the world and has infected over ten thousand in Nigeria.
The Bauchi State, Deputy Governor, Baba Tela, who is the also the state COVID-19 Taskforce Chairman has been confirmed positive for the virus.
This information was confirmed in a press statement released and signed by the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the Bauchi State Governor, Mukhtar Gidado.
According to Gidado, the Deputy Governor contracted the virus while discharging his duty as the state COVID-19 Taskforce chairman in order to stem the spread of the virus to and among the state residents.
He added that the Deputy Governor is at this time receiving adequate treatment within the state and is being attended to by medical professionals ensuring he recovers soon.
Meanwhile the Bauchi State Governor,Bala Mohammed has commiserated with the Deputy Governor,and his family, while also praying for his quick recovery.
Bala Mohammed also used the occasion to call for calm in the state and also urging all the state residents to ensure they adhere to all safety and precautionary measures announced by medical professionals to avoid contracting the virus.
It would be recalled that about 10,819 Nigerians have been confirmed positive to the deadly coronavirus so far, while the total number of 314 persons have lost their lives after suffering complications related to the virus.
About 3,240 among the 10,819 confirmed cases have so far recovered with 7,265 active cases as at the time of filling this report.
on a global scale, over 6 million confirmed cases have been recorded with over 300,000 deaths and over 3,000,000 confirmed and active cases.
Scientists and medical practitioners are yet to find a reliable cure or vaccine for the novel virus, research works are on going all over the world and a breakthrough is seriously being awaited.
