The Federal Government has declared Thursday, October 1 as a public holiday in commemoration of Nigeria’s 60th Independence anniversary.
In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of interior, Georgina Ekeoma, the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola called on all Nigerians to join hands together with the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration in its quest to ensure a better Nigeria for all citizens, both at home and abroad.
The statement tagged “WE MUST TOGETHER MAKE NIGERIA GREAT” Aregbesola said the unity among Nigerians shall be a befitting tribute to the struggles of Nigeria’s heroes past.
The Minister said though, celebrating sixty-years of independence calls for pomp and pageantry, but with the global COVID-19 pandemic, which has forced all nations in the world to think and act cautiously, Nigeria cannot avoid the imperative of a low-keyed celebration at this time.
Aregbesola wished Nigerians a fruitful Independence celebration as he also reminded them of the fact that Nigeria’s founding fathers, despite the differences in faith, tribe and tongue came together for the country’s independence.
He further described Nigeria as the leading black nation in the entire world and Africa’s pride and beacon of hope given how the country has faired in the areas of Innovation, Music, Movie, Entertainment, Fashion and culture.
