In commemoration of the Nelson Mandela International Day, the ONE Campaign and ten African artists have released a song calling for the world to join in solidarity to fight COVID-19.
According to the statement released on One Campaign website, the music track was recorded in partnership with the Nelson Mandela Foundation and MTV Base.
The song titled Stand Together which is a solidarity anthem features 2Baba, Ahmed Soultan, Ben Pol, Teni, Yemi Alade, Amanda Black, Stanley Enow, Gigi La Mayne, Prodigio and Betty G.
The song was produced by Cobhams Asuquo, and the artists were from countries such as Nigeria, Tanzania, South Africa, Cameroon, Angola, Ethiopia, and Morocco.
Nigerian singer and songwriter, Yemi Alade said, such songs don’t always come around adding that it is always a breath of fresh air when people gets to listen to such songs.
Nelson Mandela Day
The song was launched during the Nelson Mandela Annual Lecture 2020 and featured remarks from UN Secretary-General António Guterres around the theme of tackling inequality during COVID-19.
Nelson Mandela Day is celebrated on 18 July annually to remember the contributions of Mandela to the culture of peace, human right, reconciliation and freedom.
Mandela, who was born on 18 July 1918 in South Africa was a great politician, revolutionary and philanthropist.
The day is observed to take Action, Inspire Change, in honour of late Mandela, who fought against social injustice for almost sixty-seven years.
