The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC has issued a warning about the possible explosion of Coronavirus, COVID-19 in the country. Director-General of the NCDC, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu made this known while speaking during an interview in Abuja.
Ihekweazu, who said that a second wave of the virus is inevitable in Nigeria urged all states in Nigeria to increase the number of COVID-19 testing noting that some people might be positive and still asymptomatic.
Earlier, the agency has listed nine states that have tested the least number of samples for COVID-19, the states are Taraba, Adamawa, Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger, Kebbi, Zamfara, Jigawa and Yobe
Also, NCDC listed Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Borno as the states that are testing a lot and not finding as many COVID-19 cases as they used to find.
The NCDC DG stated that the agency has been reaching out to states to let them know that the national curve that is being announced every day is a reflection of several sub-national curves.
He expressed concerns over the possible explosion of Coronavirus in the states where they are not doing enough testing hence posing the risk of affecting the rest of the country again.
According to him, as schools begin to re-open, there will be increased chances for transmission because students will come together. However, he said the second wave is avoidable if individuals take responsibilities to curtail the further spread of the virus in Nigeria.
