Mixed reactions have continued to trail an apology tendered by the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, following the South West unification rally organized by the Peoples Democratic Party PDP in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
The party held a rally amidst a rumored suspected case of Coronavirus outbreak in Ibadan, the state capital.
In a statment made available to jounalists, the governor said it is imperative to communicate directly the measures the state government is taking to ensure the prevention, containment, and control of the disease.
According to him, part of the measures is setting up of the Oyo state COVID-19 Task Force, the free health mission, among others.
Makinde said his administration had received the complaints about the rally that was held in the state and take responsibility for the lapses.
While commending the governor for tendering an apology, some twitter users described him as a man with the right leadership quality.
Seyi Makinde
A twitter user @OgbeniDipo said “Really happy that Seyi Makinde took responsibility and apologized. That’s the way to go. That’s someone who listens, not arrogant and thinks he is above criticism. Leadership!
Another twitter user @Backarray twitted “Gov. Seyi Makinde apologized and took responsibility for Yesterday’s rally. He’s admitting that though they acted on the information they had at the time, it shouldn’t have happened. In a country where it is rare to see leaders accept responsibilities, this is a delight.
@Dee_adeoluwa said “No Nigerian leader has ever taken responsibility for anything since I was born. God bless Seyi Makinde
@Tife_fabunmi said “I still don’t understand the type of Governor Seyi Makinde is. Few weeks ago, he went out in the middle of the night to assist in cleaning the state. Another day, he paid a surprise visit to a school, saw the dilapidated condition and instructed that renovation should start.
@tboss_guy
Are you sure Seyi Makinde is not the president oNigeria? I dunno what he’s doing in Oyo
Meanwhile, there are some people with contracry opinion about the apology
@DeeOneAyekooto said, “This is what Seyi Makinde suppose to do upon his arrival from Florida but he didn’t, instead, he organized a political rally even when there’s no election. What a big shame!
@ronkizzle93 twitted “Seyi makinde, better oh. Don’t make that kind of mistake ever again abeg. I also love how everyone called him out, its not like we don’t still stan him. No blind support from this side, but I get some of you can’t ever relate because you can’t fumble the bag. Must be tragic o
@AdeBanqie twitted “What information did Seyi Makinde have when that Oyo PDP rally held? Remember, he is a Governor and is expected to be more informed than all of us. Can we say He is a CLUELESS Governor who sacrificed the lives of his people on the altar of partisan politics? Just thinking….
@Optimistic_Ade twitted “Instead of providing firefighting equipment, HE PROVIDED HUG. Instead of providing medical preventive measure against COVID-19, HE PROVIDED RALLY AND APOLOGY.
@therealdaddymo1 said, “Gov. Seyi Makinde apologized and took responsibility for Yesterday’s rally but was aware of the threat of coronavirus or isn’t he accessible to global news like the rest of us? Does he understand the gravity of what could potentially be a disaster if any cases begin to manifest?
In the meantime, the Governor has urged the residents and citizens of the state to remain calm and observe all preventive measures announced by the state and federal ministries of health and their agencies.
